What is so Special about Israel?

Is God Through with the Jews? Absolutely not! In spite of what even some misguided evangelicals would have us believe, and even though the seed of Abraham is certainly not living in obedience to God’s desires, according to the Word of God, (Romans 9-11) He has not revoked His promise, and He never will. In fact, as goes the nation of Israel, so goes the world. Israel is God’s time clock for the future, and what happens to Israel affects God’s prophecy for all other nations. I will start a new series of sermons on Israel and God’s Purposes. In this study, we will lay the foundation of what it means, and what it doesn’t mean that the Jews are God’s chosen people.

The Bible is primarily a history book of the Jewish people from Abraham to the Millennial Kingdom

Within the Evangelical Church, there are three views of the people of Israel; two are heretical.

In Romans 1:16-17, the Apostle Paul said God’s divine plan was for the gospel message to be given to the Jews first and then to the Gentiles.

In Romans 1:18-32, the Apostle Paul said God’s wrath against all unrighteousness is indivisible from His righteousness.

In Romans 2:8-11, the Apostle Paul said there is no partiality with God.

The Jews get “special” treatment because they are the only recipients of God’s covenant promises, and the blessings we receive as believers in Jesus Christ are mediated to us through those covenants. Therefore, we are indebted to the Jews for our salvation.

In Romans 2:17-18, the Apostle Paul said, “Indeed, you are called a Jew, and rest on the Law, and make your boast in God, and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the Law.”

Notice the five benefits that make the Jews a unique people:

In Romans 2:21-24, Paul explains how the Jews fell short of God’s perfect righteousness.

In Romans 2:28-29, Paul defines the present position of the Jewish people.

The weighty question being raised here is this:

Paul continues, in Romans 3:1-2, to defend God’s judgment by highlighting His promises:

Israel Restored to the Land: Ezekiel 39:25-29

“Therefore, thus says the Lord God: ‘Now I will bring back the captives of Jacob, and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for My holy name. After they have borne their shame, and all their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, when they dwelt safely in their own land and no one made them afraid. When I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and I am hallowed in them in the sight of many nations, then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer. And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,’ says the Lord God.”
