“Unity and Faithfulness to God” Joshua 22:1-34

According to the Book of Joshua, it took about seven years for Joshua to conquer Canaan and to divide the land between the twelve tribes. However, when the Western tribes heard “someone say” the Eastern tribes had built an altar on the Canaan side of the Jordan River , “The whole congregation of the Children of Israel gathered together at Shiloh to go to war against them.” Joshua 22 highlights how a civil war was alleviated through a thorough, but peaceful investigation and an open and honest clarification of the issue, leading to complete reconciliation among the tribes. Because of the initial confrontation, what was “rumored” to be a deliberate act of rebellion against God, which could have divided the nation of God’s people, turned out to be an event that unified their faith in the God of Israel for generations to come. The title of this Sunday’s sermon is: “ Victorious Christian Living: Unity and Faithfulness to God.” My prayer is that God will use this sermon to remind us of the value of resolving conflicts before they lead to division.
