“The Soon Coming King” Titus 2:11-14

The Great Reformers referred to Titus 2:11-14 as the “Great Doctrine of Grace,” because these verses comprehensively explain how God’s saving grace transforms believers, teaching them to deny sin, live godly lives, and anticipate Christ’s return, thereby linking salvation (justification) with sanctification (holiness). In these four verses, the Apostle Paul defined the goal of God’s plan of redemption: “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:11-14) The second coming of Jesus Christ is a cardinal doctrine of the Christian faith. It is not minor! It is not unimportant! It is not secondary or tertiary; it is critical. In fact, in some ways, the second coming of Jesus Christ is the most important event, because it is the culmination of the Christmas story; for when Jesus comes again, every word of Scripture will be complete, for every word of prophecy will be consummated. Every word!
