“The Sign of the Savior” Isaiah 7:10-14

On December 25, millions of people around the world will celebrate the birth of a man whom they do not know and honor Him as the Savior in whom they do not believe. While we know that Jesus was not born on December 25, and there is no biblical mandate even for Christians to celebrate His birth, the fact is, without Christ’s birth, there would be no “Christ-mass.” And, unless that baby boy fulfilled every biblical prophecy related to the Messiah, we are giving that baby a whole lot of undeserved attention. So, there must be some conclusive evidence that Mary’s son was, in fact, the God-promised Messiah – that Jesus was the Savior sent from God, and there is. In Isaiah 7:14, God spoke through the prophet and said, “The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” However, roughly 30% of the general public, and about 25% of those who claim to be Christians, do not believe in Mary’s immaculate conception, with some saying it isn’t that important. However, the doctrine of the virgin birth is the heart of our salvation, and if that sweet little Jesus boy was not God in the flesh – i.e., the incarnation, then we are still lost in our sins and looking for a Savior. When it comes to the Christmas story, most people turn to the gospels of Matthew and Luke, which recount the historical and prophetic events of the Lord Jesus’ first coming.

According to every Creed, the “Virgin Birth” is included as an essential doctrine of the Christian faith, i.e., one cannot be a Christian without embracing the immaculate conception of Jesus.

When God sent His word to Ahaz, he replied: “I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord” , and he died in his unbelief! When God sent His word to Mary, she replied: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be unto me according to thy word!” What is your answer to Him today?
