“The Lord God Has Spoken” Amos 3:1-15

Each time the prophet Amos returned to the City of Jerusalem, he was repulsed to see how God’s people had turned from their true worship of God, and how such apostasy had affected their love for one another. Amos said, in effect, they had violated God’s commandment, and therefore they should prepare for God’s judgment. Again, Amos might well have been standing in the streets of America, for we are on the precipice of God’s judgment, and in many ways, we are already there. The title of this sermon is “Return to Me! The Lord God Has Spoken.”

In Hebrews 1:1, the Bible says, “God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways.”

In the opening chapter of his prophecy, Amos had made it clear that while he was not a prophet, nor from the family of prophets, God had sent him to deliver a message to His people.

Out of all the nations of the world, God chose to make a covenant with the nation of Israel – the children of Abraham.

In Hebrew, the word “agreed” means “met” – if two people are going to walk together, they must meet at some point!

Amos used six statements to illustrate his words of warning to the people of Israel:

Amos draws the conclusion:

God is warning America of some very devastating times ahead unless God’s people repent and return to serve and worship the God of our fathers.

Amos 3:11 – “ Therefore, saith the Lord God, an adversary there shall be even round about the land, and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled!”
