“The Lord God Has Spoken” Amos 3:1-15

The greatest challenge facing the evangelical community today is whether Jesus Christ remains the Lord of His Church or whether it has been turned over to church-growth marketers. According to those who study the effectiveness of the Church in the world today, the message of the gospel is being stifled by four major issues: Pastoral scandals – moral, financial, and the abuse of power. Biblical Illiteracy – a willful ignorance of the essential doctrines of the Christian faith. Cultural compromise – adapting the gospel message to fit with the secular culture. Lack of visible love – which is the main evidence of our relationship with Him. Beloved, practical atheism is a much greater threat to the Christian faith than outright atheism. Practical atheism is to say we believe in God, but to live as though God does not exist, or that He makes no difference in our lives . This attitude of “indifference” nullifies the gospel’s transforming power. Hence our need for genuine revival, and our purpose for the exposition of the Book of Amos. God called Amos to warn the Israelites to either return to Him in genuine repentance or prepare to receive His judgment. Beloved, this same call is for God’s people today. Beloved, practical atheism is a much greater threat to the Christian faith than outright atheism. Practical atheism is to say we believe in God, but to live as though God does not exist, or that He makes no difference in our lives . Amos made it clear that he was not a prophet, nor was he from a family of prophets; rather, he was a shepherd from Tekoa, a small city on the edge of the northern Judean hills.

Whether obedient or disobedient, God chose Abraham’s seed to be His people, and His choice was irrevocable and eternal.

Being nearer to the heart of God is a great privilege, but it also is a great responsibility,

The Agreement had been broken between God and Israel – “Amos 3:3 – “Can two walk together except they be agreed?”

When God speaks, His people need to take it seriously, shake off their complacency, evaluate their walk, make sure they are truly walking with Him, in the light of His Word, and that the reflection of His glory has not been diminished by their actions, attitudes or way of life!

God is warning America, unless His people repent of their sins and return to serve and worship the God of our fathers, His divine judgment is already set to be released.
