“The Feast of Passover” Leviticus 23:4-5

The first Passover occurred on the 14th of Nisan, 1451 B.C.  Jesus of Nazareth was crucified on the 14 th of Nisan in 32 A.D., fulfilling the illustration of the Passover. At the same hour the Jewish priests began to slaughter over 250,000 lambs in memorial to the way God redeemed their forefathers from Egyptian slavery, Roman soldiers began to crucify Jesus of Nazareth as God’s way of redeeming us from our sins. At the same hour the High Priest slaughtered the last lamb and cried out, “It is finished,” the Lord Jesus, our High Priest gave up His Spirit and cried out, “It is finished.” While the Jews still celebrate Passover just as they have done for 3500 years, as Christians, we celebrate Passover as the day God redeemed us from our sin and assured us of our home with Him in heaven. We will explain this further in our next sermon, “The Feast of Passover”, which is based on our study of Leviticus 23, and Exodus 12.
