“Preparing For Persecution” 1 Peter 1:3-5

As was evidenced in Paris recently, there is a blatant, brazen, and barefaced hostility against Christianity, and the hatred is growing stronger and more militant each day.  As that Catholic Bishop said about the drag queens mocking the Lord’s supper, “We now know who their enemy is; they’re naming it, and we should believe them.” Those who have stood firm in their faith amid persecution, even to their death, had the roots of their faith planted deep in the truth of God’s Word and in the assurance of God’s love. Are you so grounded? This week, as we continue our sermons from 1 Peter, entitled “How Should We Then Live,” our focus will be on preparing for the persecution.

In 1 Peter 1:13, Peter said the first step in preparing for persecution was to prepare our minds:

In 1 Peter 1:22, Peter said the second step in preparing for persecution is to purify our soul:

Peter gave this doxology unto God the Father who gave to us this inheritance through the Lord, Jesus Christ.

False teachers intimidate those who are not sure of their salvation by telling them that they can “lose” the inheritance God has promised them.

True, saving faith is an enduring faith. It is based on the same, supernatural power the Lord Jesus exhibited when He was ridiculed, rejected, persecuted, crucified, and buried – but then rose again from the dead, just as He said.

Therefore, no matter how good or bad this life is for us who believe in Jesus Christ, our best life is yet to come, with Him, in glory, and that life will never end.
