“Praying for Our Church Family” Colossians 1:9-14

Wednesday night at 6:00 PM, we will continue our series of sermons on “Paul’s Passionate Prayers.” In our next sermon, we will study Colossians 1:9-14 under the heading, “Praying for Our Church Family.” Every Saturday night, I receive several texts, emails, messages, and Facebook pages that simply says: “We are praying for you!” On Sunday morning, about 10-minutes before the service begins, the men of the Church gather in the fellowship hall and pray for the pastor. Wow! What a treasure! What a challenge! With no “whine” intended, on those Sundays when my strength is near gone, in my weakness, the Holy Spirit is made strong, in answer to those prayers. My challenge in this sermon is to encourage the whole church family to pray for the whole church family just the same way they pray for me!! Have you ever thought, “How can I pray for the members of Heritage Baptist Church?

In Colossians 1:9-14, the Apostle Paul revealed how he prayed for the Church at Colossae, and in so doing, he gave us a prayer pattern to us in praying for those in our church family.

The Church at Colossae was started by Epaphras, who was converted under Paul’s ministry in Ephesus and then returned home to establish the church.

Paul had two main petitions in his prayers for the Church at Colossae.

Now we can see how the second petition comes out of the first.

Paul’s goal was for the Christians in Colossae to walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing unto Him, which is the process of daily sanctification. Then Paul identified four specific ways Christians should pray for one another.
