Although substantive objections exist regarding the statement in the Apostle’s Creed that Jesus descended into hell, and acknowledging that this phrase was not present in the original Creed, a comprehensive study of relevant scriptures reveals that understanding this aspect is essential for a complete view of the purpose of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Therefore, this additional step of His ministry should be included in contemporary church teachings. However, in contrast to the teachings of the “Word Faith Movement,” Jesus did not enter Hades to endure further suffering for humanity’s sins. Redemption was secured through His death on the cross. Instead, His descent served to declare victory over the demons who had attempted to obstruct God’s plan for our redemption and to reward Old Testament saints who had died in faith, trusting in God’s promise of a Savior. The title of this sermon is: “I Believe in Jesus Christ who Descended into Hell.” We are deeply grateful for your continued support and for sharing these sermon study guides with those you think might be interested. In 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, the Apostle Paul confirmed the basic scriptural foundation for the statements in the Apostles’ Creed regarding Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and He was buried, and He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures. “

Over the years, skeptics and agnostics have challenged the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ by positing several theories.

There are three levels of the underworld:

Peter said that while Jesus was dead in the flesh and His body lay in the tomb, He was alive in His Spirit and He went into the realm of the dead to preach to the spirits.

Jesus’ message to the demonic spirits was that, contrary to their desires and thoughts, He had conquered sin, Satan, and death.

However, Jesus had another message to the souls of those Old Testament Saints who had died in faith, believing God’s promise to send a Savior.

Now, what does all of this mean to us?
