“I Believe in God the Father Almighty” Acts 17:22-31

The statement “I believe in God the Father, Maker of Heaven and Earth,” is a fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith. The declaration emphasizes our belief in one God, who is the uncreated Creator of all that exists, and it affirms the Christian understanding of God as that omnipotent being who is not only personally involved in the governance of the universe, but also in the daily affairs of our everyday lives. In Genesis 1:1, the Bible says, “In beginning, God.” (The article “the” is not in the original manuscripts.) If we are to return to the Old Paths, we must go back to the beginning and restore a high view of a Holy God, for every facet of our lives is based upon our concept of God, including our witness to the world. On Sunday, February 1, we will continue our sermon series entitled, “In Search of the Old Paths.”

The writers of the Apostles Creed referred to God as the Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, to affirm His supreme and matchless power, as demonstrated by His creation.

A confession of faith begins with the assertion that the God who has revealed Himself in the Scriptures is the Almighty, Omnipotent God: the uncreated Creator of all things; the uncaused Cause behind every-thing that has ever existed, that exists today, or will exist in the future, including His plan for our redemption, which the writers expressed in the rest of the creed regarding the Person and work of Jesus Christ, and the Person and work of the Holy Spirit.

After preaching the gospel in Thessalonica, Paul went to Athens, where he addressed the Areopagus, a council of philosophers and civil leaders who considered themselves to be the intellectuals.

However, each of the three persons in the Godhead glorifies one another. The Son is glorified by the Spirit. The Father is glorified by the Son. The Son has His glory from the Father. The Son becomes the glory of the Spirit, and God the Father glorifies the Son by means of the Spirit, and glorifies the Spirit by the means of the Son.
