“The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the single greatest event in the history of the world. It is so foundational to Christianity that no one who denies it can be a true Christian.” Dr. John MacArthur If the resurrection of Jesus Christ did not happen, just as the Scriptures declare – as the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:14-19 ·         Our preaching is in vain. ·         Our faith in Jesus as our Savior and Lord is in vain – – Christianity is just another dead religion. ·         We are still in bondage to our sin nature. ·         We are still under God’s eternal judgment for our sins. ·         Our deceased loved ones have perished forever. ·         This life is all there is, for death ends it all. However, as the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:20, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first-fruits of them that slept.” Because He rose, those who belong to Him will rise too. Jesus’ physical resurrection from the grave guarantees the future resurrection for those who have received Him as their Savior and Lord. Think about how powerful that is. ·         Jesus’ death on the cross fulfilled the Feast of Passover. ·         Jesus’ burial in the tomb fulfilled the Feast of Unleavened Bread. ·         Jesus’ victorious resurrection from the grave fulfilled the Feast of First-fruits. Jesus’ resurrection was proof that the rest of the harvest is coming. Spurgeon wrote: “Upon a life I did not live, upon a death I did not die, I risk my whole eternity on the resurrection.” Beloved, lift your eyes above the bunnies, the baskets, and the bonnets! Through His death on the cross, Jesus bore the sewage of our sin so that we could wear the robes of His righteousness and be made acceptable unto God the Father. Jesus’ resurrection was not just proof that He had the power to forgive our sins, but to give us everlasting life. Do we dare trivialize the greatest truth the world has ever heard? In Acts 1:3, Luke wrote, “Jesus presented Himself alive after suffering, by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking things pertaining to the Kingdom of God .”

Skeptics have had 2000 years to disprove the resurrection of Jesus, but no one has been able to do it.

Jesus said the only sign He would give to prove His deity was the sign of the prophet Jonah:

The miracle of Jonah was a “type”, or an illustration of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.

Jesus’ death and resurrection was according to the schedule God established in the Seven Jewish Feasts in Leviticus 23. They were “types” or illustrations of what Jesus would do to fulfill God’s plan for our salvation.
