“Claiming Our Inheritance by Faith” Joshua 18:1 – 19:51

The basic theme of a famous televangelist is that if a person believes in Jesus Christ, they can have their “best life now!” I’m not sure how that sermon would be received among the 10% of the world’s people whose daily diet is less than a “cup of rice,” and that being boiled in dirty water. While receiving Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord has some temporal benefits, such as peace with God and unlimited access to His grace, the most excellent news is that, by being “in Christ,” God has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints, which is to come after this “age” is over. Until then, perhaps Paul’s warning in 1 Timothy 6:8-10 should be heeded: “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
