I’m afraid that many folks who heard the call of God to be saved came to Jesus to get their ticket punched so they could go to heaven when they die. Once the visit with the Lord was over, they went back to their old way of living, and unless something drastic happens, they will never know what it means to have that personal, intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus! God has called us out of the world, to send us back into the world, not to become entangled by the world, but to show others how to overcome the world through the power of the one who called us out of the world. Can you comprehend that? So, how does it feel, knowing that YOU are the people of God, a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God’s possession – those God has called out of the darkness and the depravity of this world, and to whom He has imparted the light of His glory, making you uniquely significant? This week, as we continue our sermons from 1 Peter: A Living Hope – Preparing for Persecution. The title of this sermon is, “Blessed to be a blessing!”

Old Testament: Psalm 118:1-29 New Testament: Mark 12:1-12

The Apostle Peter used four “Old Testament Concepts” to illustrate “New Testament Precepts.”

Peter wanted his readers to know that:

About 64 AD – these new Christians were suffering severe persecution from Roman Emperor Nero.

In Psalm 118:22 and Isaiah 28:14-16, God prophesied His plan to provide a Redeemer to whom lost man could come and find eternal salvation:

Peter said this Jesus, to whom they had come for salvation, was not just another religious leader – but rather He was:

The Judgment Seat of Christ

The Great White Throne Judgment

Peter said those who “come to Christ” are:

Peter said God had called them to: “ show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light!” (Vs. 9) – to be “living examples” of His power to deliver us from evil.

True believers know what God has done for them through Jesus Christ. They recognize Him as their Savior and Lord, and they give Him the glory due His Holy Name!
