Having just crossed the Jordan River on dry land and now camped within a few miles of Jericho, the Israelites were ready to start their military campaign to rout out the Canaanites and reclaim the land God had promised Abraham 500 years earlier. However, God said, “ Wait, not so fast! Worship comes before warfare, and their consecration to Him was more important than their conquest of the land. He called them to take the time to review and renew their holiness.
